Arturo Gilio Quintero is preparing for his professional debut in front of the audience in Lerdo on March 3rd.
After thorough preparation in Spain, the young bullfighter is looking forward to performing in front of his people and demonstrating the maturity he has gained, making his own path and distancing himself from his father's shadow.
"My dad has told me that he could open the door once, but I have to open it myself every evening."
"I am very happy to perform in front of the audience that has seen me grow, very excited to bullfight that day in a plaza that is very important to me. All my teachers from Torreón, my dad, my teacher at the bullfighting school Rafael Cortés, the bullfighter José Luis Orozco, have all bullfought there, which makes me feel very excited and eager to step into the bullring," he said.
"Little by little, we try to improve and grow to perform in more places. The tour in Europe allowed me to mature, especially as a person and a bullfighter. It helped me realize what the profession is like, living alone in Spain, training practically all day, because I was one hundred percent dedicated to bullfighting. This allowed me to continue evolving and refining certain details of my bullfighting," he added.
Arturo is building his career on his own merits, away from the shadow of his father.
"My dad has told me that he could open the door once, but I have to open it myself every evening, in front of the bull in different plazas. Many people say that because I am Arturo Gilio's son, they want to see what I bring. I am being measured a little more, which is a great commitment. That's why on March 3rd in Plaza de Toros Lerdo we will see who Arturo Gilio is."
This new opportunity is a commitment that Arturo wants to come out successful from.
"Since I was a child, I dreamed of bullfighting in front of my people and the moment is approaching. I am ready to triumph," he affirmed.
"I would like the festivities to return to venues such as the Coliseo Centenario. It hurt me a lot when bullfights were banned because it was there where I bullfought for the first time, where I train daily," he added.
THE PREPARATION
Arturo Gilio Jr. has been very busy in the ranches, "I have been preparing a lot in the countryside. Since I returned from Spain, I have fought in four or five novilladas, I have trained hard. The bulls in Spain move a little more, they have more volume, and that helps to evolve and face all types of bulls. The novillada on March 3rd, which is from La Estancia, comes with an average weight of 400 kilos, so it is a guarantee in that regard."
The goal that the young bullfighter has for this year is for people to know who Arturo Gilio is, both in Mexico and Spain, and make a name for himself in every bullfight.
