CITY OF MEXICO (apro).- Mexican coach Víctor Manuel Vucetich is one of the candidates to coach the Ecuadorian football team, local media reported.

The so-called Rey Midas -who has only lost two out of 15 finals as a coach- confirmed to Radio Huancavilca station: "What I know, through my agent, is that they have had some talks, I imagine, with the people from the Ecuadorian Football Federation. I know in advance that there is a change of president in the federation that may have stopped the dialogue they may have with any candidate."

In an 18-and-a-half-minute interview, the former coach of the Mexican national team, the Tri, highlighted that Ecuadorian soccer "has gone through brilliant and golden stages", thanks to its players, highlighting figures from that country, such as Alex Aguinaga, Walter Ayoví, and Iván Hurtado.

"Today, Ecuador has (Antonio) Valencia at Manchester United with an impressive level. Ecuadorians have exceptional characteristics and they have to complement each other," he mentioned.

When talking about his playing style, Vucetich, whose last team was Club Querétaro, explained that he likes his teams to play balanced. "To win a championship, you have to know how to defend and attack. Currently, soccer is total: everyone defends and everyone attacks."

The Ecuadorian newspaper El Comercio also highlighted Vucetich as one of the strong options to lead the South American team. Other options are Ricardo Antonio La Volpe and Jorge Luis Pinto.
