Moses Arce Daher, the new head of the Municipal Sports Institute in Torreon, has two main goals for this year of management: improving sports infrastructure and unconditionally supporting athletes.
He stressed that he will seek to affiliate with federations through associations to obtain greater support for athletes in any discipline.
"I commit to making the Sports Institute transparent, one that improves the infrastructure conditions for athletes, improving those spaces that have been forgotten."
"Mainly, we aim to establish a legal framework for each sports discipline by approaching associations and different leagues in Torreon. We want to establish better relationships with federations to activate support and provide a better proposal," he commented.
Regarding bringing sports to the neighborhoods, he specified that dance marathons, soccer tournaments, and other disciplines are already planned.
"In mass sports, sports in the neighborhoods, we have planned dance and yoga marathons. Since it's a World Cup year, we will organize a small World Cup in the city. We support high performance, which is essential, and above all, the improvement of the infrastructure of certain spaces that have been forgotten, such as Nazario Ortiz Garza, Deportiva Aeropuerto, and Compresora. Ultimately, we must have the best possible conditions to develop sports," he assured.
"The mayor's instruction is clear: let's give impetus to sports, improve conditions for athletes, and preserve the spaces we already have, such as La Jabonera, Línea Verde, and Multideportivo Oriente."
Time is running out, and we will work at a forced pace. "Working 24/7, that's our commitment. You will see it. This is not just talk. We start early in the morning, assessing the needs of each place, and soon you will see the results," said Arce Daher.
"Today, more people in Torreon will be encouraged to do sports with the improvements and impetus that will be given. We want to have a healthier and more united association," he said.
The support will be unconditional for everyone. "Through associations, if the athlete is affiliated with one, instead of dealing with each one individually, we aim to have one association that can request resources for athletes and cover them. We will assess if this amateur athlete has high expectations and makes a great effort, and if their association is not established or organized, we will seek to support them as well," he stated.
Those who stand out will receive follow-up.
"We have the winners of medals from the last National Olympics. We will seek to follow their progress in high-performance sports so that they have greater aspirations. We don't want them to settle for that. We want them to aim for Pan American Games and more. After all, these are athletes who are attractive to other states because they weren't supported here. So we need to establish a solid foundation and then build on it to have better expectations."
