The Slovakian Marek Hamsik becomes the all-time leading scorer for Napoli
The captain of Napoli, Marek Hamsik, became the all-time leading scorer for the club on Saturday with 116 goals, one more than the Argentine legend Diego Armando Maradona.
Marek Hamsik, who had equaled Diego Maradona's record last week with a great goal against Torino, has now entered Napoli's history thanks to a goal scored at the San Paolo stadium against Sampdoria.
The 30-year-old Slovakian international took advantage of an assist from the Belgian Dries Mertens to push the ball into the net and celebrated the goal with the temporary 3-2 lead by showing his number, 17, to the Napoli fans.
After joining Napoli in 2007 from Brescia, Hamsik opened his scoring account on August 15 of that same year with a goal against Cesena in the Italian Cup and went on to score 96 goals in the Italian league, 4 in the national cup, and 15 in European competitions.
The top three leading scorers for Napoli are now led by the Slovakian, followed by Maradona, who scored 115 goals between 1984 and 1991, and the Italian of Paraguayan origin, Attila Sallustro, who scored 108 goals between 1926 and 1937.
Currently, the fourth highest scorer is the Uruguayan Edinson Cavani (104 goals between 2010 and 2013), while the Argentine Gonzalo Higuain is in eighth place with 91 goals between 2013 and 2016.
