Oscar Pistorius injured in prison fight
South African Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius, who was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, was injured during a fight in jail, the prison services reported on Tuesday.
Oscar Pistorius suffered "a bruise" after an "altercation with another inmate over the use of a public telephone," a spokesperson for the prison administration, Singabakho Nxumalo, told AFP.
The incident occurred at the Atteridgeville correctional facility, located near Pretoria, a center adapted for disabled individuals.
According to local media, prisoners who were waiting to make a phone call lost patience when Pistorius exceeded his allotted time.
In late November, a South African court doubled Pistorius' sentence on appeal to 13 years and 5 months in prison for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013.
Pistorius, 30, had initially been sentenced to six years in prison, much less than the minimum penalty of 15 years prescribed for murder in the South African penal code.
In the early morning of February 14, 2013, Valentine's Day, Pistorius shot his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, four times through the bathroom door of his home.
The Paralympic multi-champion has always claimed his innocence and insisted that he believed a burglar had entered his property in Pretoria and shot in a panic.
