Mexican attacker Raúl Jiménez plays in Benfica's victory
Mexican attacker Raúl Jiménez received playing minutes in Benfica's 3-1 victory over Estoril to close the gap and put pressure on league leaders Porto in the Primeira Liga.
The Lisbon team took advantage of their home status in the 14th round of the Portuguese competition and easily secured the win thanks to early goals from Argentine Eduardo Salvio (13) and Brazilian Jonas (18).
Estoril narrowed the lead before halftime with a goal from Kléber (45), however the Eagles confirmed the victory in front of their fans at Estadio da Luz with a goal from Croatian Filip Krovinovic in the 59th minute.
Hidalgo-born forward Raúl Jiménez came on as a substitute in the final stretch of the match, replacing Brazilian Jonas in the 84th minute, but the Mexican had little impact during that time.
The America academy graduate is going through a difficult moment in his third season with the Eagles as he has not been a regular starter and has not even scored in the Portuguese league.
With this victory, Benfica reached 33 points to catch up with Porto, the team of Mexicans Diego Reyes, Héctor Herrera, Miguel Layún, and Jesús Manuel "Tecatito" Corona, however, the Dragons could regain the points difference in their match tomorrow against Vitoria Setúbal.
