AC Milan fires Vincenzo Montella and hires Gennaro Gattuso as new coach

AC Milan announced on Monday the dismissal of Vincenzo Montella as coach after Sunday's draw with Torino. He will be replaced by World Cup champion Gennaro Gattuso, the club said in a statement.

The "rossonera" society thanked Montella for "the work he has done so far, for his commitment, seriousness, and professionalism" and welcomed Gattuso, who was coaching the youth academy and will be presented at a press conference tomorrow.

Montella joined the Milan team in June 2016, signing a two-season contract, and leaves Milan in seventh place in Serie A (First division) after the fourteenth matchday, with six wins, two draws, and six losses.

He will now be replaced by one of AC Milan's most distinguished players, Gennaro Gattuso, who wore the "rossonera" jersey for fourteen seasons (1999-2012) and was a World Cup champion in Germany 2006.
