Top Eight Tennis Players Set for ATP Masters in London
The final tournament of the 2017 ATP season, the Masters in London, has determined the top eight tennis players in the world, as well as the groups they will compete in. The tournament will take place in London, England, from November 12th to 19th.
Rafael Nadal, the number one seed in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) ranking, is in Group A alongside Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, Austrian Dominic Thiem, and Belgian David Goffin.
Meanwhile, the living legend of the sport, Roger Federer, is in Group B, already nicknamed the "group of death" due to the presence of top players such as Croatian Marin Cilic, German Alexander Zverev, and American Jack Sock, who secured the eighth spot in the tournament ranking.
The draw for the London Masters groups took place on a morning radio program broadcasted by BBC. The draw was more favorable for Nadal than for Federer, as the Swiss player will face tough opponents like Zverev, ranked third in the world, and Cilic, who is in fifth place.
The top eight seeded players in the ATP ranking until November qualify for the Masters in London. They are then divided into two groups of four participants and play in a round-robin format. The top two players in each group advance to the tournament's semifinals.
The hard surface and indoor court of the O2 Arena in London will witness the tournament that marks the end of the ATP's 2017 World Tour. It will be a fitting finale for the top eight tennis players in the world.
