West Ham announces David Moyes as new manager
The West Ham has announced that David Moyes will be their new manager, a day after the dismissal of Croatian Slaven Bilic due to poor results that keep them in 18th place in the Premier League.
"West Ham can confirm the appointment of David Moyes as the club's manager," announced the London team on their website.
Moyes, a 54-year-old Scotsman, has previously managed Everton, Manchester United, Real Sociedad, and Sunderland; it was in his time at the Red Devils where he coached Mexican Javier Hernandez, who did not have much activity under his command.
"We need someone with experience who knows the Premier League and its players, and we believe David is the man we need to recover," said West Ham's vice chairman David Sullivan, without specifying the duration of his contract.
Moyes also commented on his arrival at West Ham: "Do I have something to prove? I think so. I have managed five clubs since I started nearly 20 years ago at Preston. Then Everton. My time at Manchester United was heavily commented on and then I did something I always wanted, to coach abroad, at Real Sociedad."
"For now, we are solely focused on finishing this season, the first thing is to win the next match and build from there, I am sure we will quickly be in a better position," he added.
Bilic, a former Croatian international who was a semifinalist in the 1998 World Cup, arrived at West Ham in 2015 and shone in his first season, achieving a seventh place finish. In the second season, the team finished 11th.
This year, West Ham has only won two matches out of eleven, which has led the team to the relegation zone.
