Carlos Correa and Daniella Rodriguez left Dodger Stadium with new rings. In a moment broadcast live on television, the Astros shortstop proposed to his girlfriend just moments after Houston won the World Series title with a 5-1 victory in Game 7.

Correa's proposal after approximately a year of dating took Rodriguez, a former Miss Texas USA, by surprise. "I was really focused on the game," Rodriguez said. "All he would talk about was winning the World Series, so I never thought he had something like this in mind, so when it happened, I just stayed in shock." She also had no idea that Correa's mother had urged him to formalize their relationship nor that he had been planning the proposal for several weeks.

Even Correa's teammates were aware: Carlos Beltran, the 40-year-old Astros' designated hitter, helped the 23-year-old player select the ring. Correa said he had decided to take a risk and wait for an exciting ending to the first season that the Astros won the championship.

"I knew we had championship potential, so I decided to wait until the last game of the season," Correa said. Rodriguez said yes, once she regained her speech. While Correa went to the clubhouse to spray the others with champagne, Rodriguez proudly showed off the enormous ring to the wives and girlfriends of the other Astros players, such as Kate Upton, Justin Verlander's partner. Rodriguez said she would need some time to get over the shock.

"Everyone knew except me," she said. "I'm really good at finding out things. Every time I had a surprise birthday party, I always found out. So I knew absolutely nothing about this. Everyone knew except me."

Correa and Rodriguez live together in Houston with their puppy, Groot. Correa, who was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2015, hit five home runs and drove in 14 runs in a great postseason, including eight hits in the World Series, including two home runs.
