Renault Racing to Leave Formula E and Focus on Formula 1

The Renault team announced today that it will leave Formula E at the end of the 2017/18 season in July next year to concentrate on its activities in Formula 1.

The Renault e.dams team is one of the founding members of Formula E and consecutively won the constructors' titles in the electric car category between 2015 and 2017. In addition, Swiss driver Sébastien Buemi won the drivers' championship for the French team in 2016.

Renault returned to having its own team in Formula 1 this season, and the team is currently seventh in the constructors' championship after 17 out of 20 races.

The current drivers for Renault are Spanish driver Carlos Sainz, who achieved a seventh-place finish in his first race with the team last Sunday in Austin, and German driver Nico Hülkenberg.

In the meantime, Formula E announced today that Nissan will join the category in the 2018/19 season. BMW will also join in the same season, while Audi will join in December of this year. Mercedes and Porsche also have plans to join the electric car competition.
