Tom Brady threw two touchdown passes as the New England Patriots had no problem defeating the Atlanta Falcons 23-7 on Sunday, amid dense fog. The Falcons were far from finding revenge for their defeat in the last Super Bowl.

The Sunday matchup was not exactly a Super Bowl. In fact, it wasn't even a "super game". The Patriots simply toyed with a team that looked intimidated.

In February, New England scored the last 31 points to come back and win against Atlanta. Several spectators at Gillette Stadium wore shirts with the inscription "28-3", the score that the Falcons had in their favor in the third quarter of the Super Bowl.

And the festive atmosphere strengthened after New England (5-2) scored the first 23 points. The Falcons (3-3) didn't have to wait long to crumble this time.

Brady didn't forgive the Falcons' weakness. The Patriots combined runs and passes to control the clock and field position. And their defense, which ranked among the lowest in the league for six weeks, shut down the NFL's fifth-best offense.

Brady threw a short, underarm pass to Brandin Cooks. The receiver used his speed to sneak into the left corner of the end zone.

The other touchdown pass was a two-yarder to James White, who scored three touchdowns in the Super Bowl, including the game-winner.

Atlanta had such a bad game that even Matt Bryant, usually reliable, had a field goal attempt blocked. Later, he hit a 36-yard kick off a goalpost.

The curse of the Falcons, dating back to the Super Bowl, could haunt them at least throughout this year.
