New York Yankees Advances to the 2017 American League Division Series
The New York Yankees advanced to the 2017 American League Division Series in the Major League Baseball playoffs, after defeating the Minnesota Twins 8-4 in the "wild card" game, in front of a packed Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees from Manhattan will now face the favorite Cleveland Indians in the first Division Series of the young circuit, starting next Thursday at Progressive Field, the home of the "Tribe".
David Robertson (1-0) got the win for the Yankees in relief. Dominican starter Luis Severino only lasted a third of an inning, giving up three runs and two home runs.
Puerto Rican José Berríos (0-1) took the loss, replacing Dominican starter Ervin Santana, who only managed two innings on the mound, allowing four runs and two home runs.
For New York, Dutch shortstop Didi Gregorius (1), Brett Gardner (1), and rookie sensation of the 2017 season, Aaron Judge (1), all hit home runs to actively contribute to this valuable victory.
For the Twins, Brian Dozier (1) and Puerto Rican Eddie Rosario (1) also hit home runs, however, this effort was of little use to the "Twins".
With this result, the two American League Division Series, which are best-of-five games, have been defined with the Yankees visiting the Indians, and the Boston Red Sox playing against the Houston Astros at home.
