Francesco Totti, legendary captain of Roma, where he played for 24 years, resigned to continue his training to become a coach, according to the Italian Coaches Association (AIAC) this Tuesday.

Totti ended his sports career last May at the age of 40. Shortly afterward, he became part of the governing body of the Roman club, although without defined functions, and enrolled in the course to obtain the UEFA B coaching license.

However, the AIAC confirmed that Totti changed his mind and decided not to continue with the course for now.

"Francesco Totti has proven to be a great champion, on and off the field," AIAC said in a statement. "Not being able to attend the course regularly and out of respect for his colleagues and the organizers, he abandons the option of becoming a coach," AIAC said.

Totti's place in the course will be taken by one of his World Cup-winning teammates in 2006, Simone Perrotta.

For now, Totti prefers to focus on his club and his family.
