Carlos Navarro returned with the silver medal obtained at the Grand Prix in Rabat, Morocco, and this achievement is another point in his favor in the competition to win the 2017 National Sports Award.

"It is one of the most important medals that can be obtained in international events. This year has been incredible for me, starting with the gold at the final Grand Prix, the bronze at the World Championships, and now the silver. I am also currently world number one, so I am going through an excellent moment in my sports career," declared Navarro.

This will be the last result to be taken into account for the National Sports Award, as the call specifies that the award will be given to those who have stood out in the sports field between November 6, 2016, and October 20, 2017.

Navarro's next event will be the Grand Prix in London, which will take place from October 20 to 22, and the athlete from Chihuahua will compete on the 21st. Therefore, the result he achieves in that competition will no longer be considered for the award.

"Everything I do is not to obtain awards, but for my country and because I enjoy this sport. In addition, I know that I have the potential to bring as much joy as possible to Mexico, and I will continue doing so with all my heart," explained the taekwondo athlete.

On the other hand, Navarro mentioned that in the past Grand Prix he was able to achieve other objectives, such as defeating Iranian athlete Farzan Ashourzadeh for the first time.

"I had already lost to the Iranian three times in a row, so this time, beating him gives me a good feeling and motivates me a lot to move forward," said Navarro.

After defeating Farzan in the semifinals of the under 58 kilograms category, Carlos faced Korean athlete Tae-Hun Kim in the fight for gold, where the Asian came out victorious.

"Fights against the Korean are intense. We have fought four times so far, and each of us has two wins. Now, we are only one kick away from difference. There will be many more fights against Kim," said the 21-year-old athlete.

After winning the silver medal, Navarro is satisfied with the result and will continue seeking more podiums in order to continue climbing in the world and Olympic rankings.

"It was a very important event with the most difficult competitors, and all categories are tough. The level is rising rapidly, and I am happy to be among the top in the world and compete against the best," he said.

Carlos will take a short break and will resume training at the National High Performance Center on Monday.
