Giants owner expresses dissatisfaction with Odell Beckham Jr.
New York Giants owner, John Mara, has expressed his dissatisfaction with star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. after he was penalized for mimicking a urinating dog during a touchdown celebration in the NFL.
The New York Post quoted Mara as saying that Beckham faced internal discipline from the Giants after the incident, which was penalized during the game.
"I don't want to get into a discussion about this, but I will say that I am very unhappy with Odell's behavior on Sunday and we intend to deal with him internally," Mara said.
Beckham, one of the biggest stars in the NFL, celebrated a touchdown by getting down on all fours, lifting his leg, and imitating a peeing dog.
Beckham later said on Twitter that his gesture was a political statement directed at President Donald Trump following the leader's criticism of NFL players last week.
However, immediately after the game, Beckham did not mention Trump and faced the sanction.
"I was in the end zone and I scored a touchdown," Beckham said. "I'm a dog, so I acted like a dog. I don't know if the rulebook says you can't walk like that, so I was trying to find the imaginary ghost that I peed on," the player added.
The NFL has relaxed the rules on touchdown celebrations this season after a series of penalties last year.
However, celebrations that reference a bodily function are still prohibited.
