Former captain of the English national football team, Wayne Rooney, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, the Cheshire Police in northern England announced today.

The 31-year-old Everton striker was arrested earlier today after being forced to stop his Volkswagen Beetle car in the town of Wilmslow.

Rooney has been released on bail and is required to appear before the Stockport Magistrates' Court in northern England on the 18th, according to sources.
