Taekwondo: Eyleen Góngora wins silver medal

Mexican athlete Eyleen Góngora claimed the silver medal in the under 33-kilogram category at the Cadet World Taekwondo Championship, held in Egypt.

Góngora was defeated in the final by Thai competitor Ratatip Namsri with a score of 13-20.

On her way to the podium, Góngora defeated Belarusian athlete Yulia Litvinava with a score of 25-6. In the next round, she received a walkover victory as her Nigerian opponent, who was the top seed in the category, was disqualified and did not show up for the fight.

In the quarterfinals, the native of Nuevo León faced Tunisian athlete Halima Atouri, whom she eliminated with a score of 15-9 to secure a bronze medal.

In the semifinals, Góngora faced Kazakhstan's Rita Bakisheva (4), but the Mexican athlete remained unfazed and defeated her convincingly with a score of 24-13, securing the silver medal.
