Very expensive for forward Nicolai Mueller from Hamburgo is the celebration of his goal: an injury that will leave him out of action for six months.
The Bundesliga club said that Mueller tore a cruciate ligament in his right knee after scoring on Saturday in the first round of the league, a 1-0 win against Augsburg. Mueller attempted a somersault and fell, apparently in pain.
Sports director Jens Todt said "the diagnosis is a huge blow for us, a tremendous blow at the start of the season, and of course, terrible for Nicolai. We wish him a speedy recovery and we will help him in the best way we can."
Mueller, considered the best player of the season for Hamburgo last season, was the subject of speculation about a possible transfer, as he had not yet signed an extension to his contract with the team.
