Roglic wins stage 17 of the Tour de France, Uran moves to second place

Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Lotto) won stage 17 of the Tour de France on Wednesday, with an ascent to the legendary Galibier. On this stage, Colombian Rigoberto Uran (Cannondale) moved up to second place in the overall standings.

Uran finished second in the stage, 1 minute and 13 seconds behind the winner, and moved up to second place overall, tied with Frenchman Romain Bardet (AG2R), both 27 seconds behind leader Chris Froome (Sky).

Uran sprinted ahead of the group that followed Roglic, which included Froome, who finished third in the stage, Bardet in fourth, Frenchman Warren Barguil (Sunweb), and Spaniard Mikel Landa (Sky).

Uran gained the six bonus seconds for finishing second, which was the advantage Bardet had over him, while Froome received four seconds for third place.

On the other hand, Nairo Quintana did not have a good day. He dropped out of the top 10 after finishing in 23rd place.

PREVIEW

On Wednesday (via ESPN 3), the 17th stage of the Tour de France is taking place, the first one in the Alps: La Mure - Serre-Chevalier, 183 km. On this route, Colombians Nairo Quintana and Rigoberto Uran will seek to continue climbing in the top 10 of the general classification.

The ascent of Croix de Fer, Telegraphe, and Galibier, and the descent to Serre Chevalier will be crucial for one of the few stages left to overthrow Christopher Froome. The British cyclist is the wearer of the yellow jersey.

Nairo Quintana had a good performance in the previous stage. He returned to the top 10 and is less than seven minutes behind the leader, but his final position is still uncertain.

His compatriot, Rigoberto Uran, remains strong in fourth place. With less than five stages remaining, it is important for him to increase his resistance and secure a place on the podium.
