Alejandro Papu Gómez renews his contract with Atalanta until 2022
Alejandro Papu Gómez renewed his contract with Atalanta until 2022 after meeting with the club's directors in Bergamo this morning, according to the entity's website.
"The 'Papu' stays with us!", was the message with which Atalanta announced Gómez's contract renewal. The midfielder, who scored 16 goals in the last season of the Italian league, led the team to qualify for the Europa League.
The 29-year-old midfielder met this morning with Atalanta's president, Antonio Percassi, and the CEO, Luca Percassi. They quickly reached an agreement for his stay in Italy.
"I am very happy to continue wearing this shirt, in a city like Bergamo. I am eager to start, we have a great season ahead," were the first statements from 'Papu' Gómez after signing his new contract, as announced by the club.
The fast forward admitted that the idea of playing for a great team fascinated him, but highlighted that Atalanta was always his first choice. He is motivated to play in the Europa League as the team captain in Bergamo.
The financial details of the renewal are still unknown, but it is estimated that the Argentinean will double his salary and earn around two million euros per season (2.3 million dollars).
