Valtteri Bottas from Finland, driving for Mercedes, won the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg. This is his second victory this season.

Bottas crossed the finish line 658 milliseconds ahead of Sebastian Vettel from Germany, who finished in second place. Vettel is the current leader of the championship and with this second place, he further increases his lead. Lewis Hamilton, Bottas' teammate and main rival, could only manage a fourth-place finish after starting the race from eighth position on the grid.

Hamilton, who was penalized with a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change, is now 20 points behind Vettel in the championship standings.

Daniel Ricciardo from Australia finished third, securing his fifth consecutive podium finish. Bottas had a great start to the race, with the race officials even reviewing whether he had jumped the start.

Despite struggling with worn tires in the last few laps, Bottas managed to hold off Vettel's attacks and crossed the finish line in first place.

This is Bottas' second victory in his career, with his first win coming in Russia.

Mexican driver Sergio Perez finished seventh for Force India and Brazilian driver Felipe Massa finished ninth for Williams.

Spanish driver Fernando Alonso retired on the first lap after being involved in a multiple-car crash caused by Daniil Kvyat from Russia, who races for Toro Rosso. This crash also resulted in Max Verstappen from the Red Bull team retiring from the race.

Swedish driver Kevin Magnussen from Haas and Spanish driver Carlos Sainz Jr. from Toro Rosso also retired due to mechanical issues.
