El eslovaco Peter Sagan, current world champion, was expelled from the Tour de France by the race commissioners after causing the fall of British rider Mark Cavendish this Tuesday in the sprint finish in Vittel.
The commissioners reproach Sagan, who crossed the finish line in second place, for a dangerous behavior that resulted in Cavendish's fall, who had to be taken to the hospital.
After his fall, Cavendish asked Sagan for an explanation for his elbow.
"I am not a doctor, but I am not very optimistic. I was following Demare and then Sagan got to my height. I get along with him. If he crosses is one thing, but an elbow...", said the British rider.
Cavendish was following the wheel of French rider Arnaud Demare, who would end up winning the stage, when the world champion released his right elbow, causing the British rider to fall against the barrier, when there were 100 meters to go to the finish line.
Two riders behind Cavendish were unable to avoid hitting him.
Cavendish, 31 years old, who has 30 stage victories in his Tour history, suffered a shoulder injury and was taken to the hospital to check if he has a collarbone fracture.
