A case of racism in football

Moroccan footballer Medhi Benatia experienced an uncomfortable moment during an interview he gave to Rai after the match between Juventus and Torino.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Benatia heard someone say, "What is this stupidity? Stop now, you Moroccan piece of shit." He was taken aback and asked the interviewers for an explanation. "We didn't hear anything," replied the presenter.

"Somebody said something. Who spoke?" the 30-year-old Moroccan insisted. The same presenter claimed they had technical problems and microphone or stadium interference. "Benatia, it wasn't an insult directed at you. Since we have technical problems, it's better to stop here. We don't insult anyone, it's not our way," said the presenter, ending the conversation.

Asking for explanations. Benatia moved the controversy to his Facebook account, where he wrote: "The evil that was committed is tragic, but the worst part is not recognizing one's mistakes. An investigation is underway. I want to thank my club, Juventus, and my fans. I am Moroccan and very proud of it." The Italian club has asked Rai for explanations, and Rai apologized and said they will open an investigation to determine who was responsible for the racist insult.
