New Signing on the Horizon for Chelsea?
Since the start of the season, Italian coach Antonio Conte has been demanding the addition of a new defender to improve the performance of Chelsea's backline. Several candidates have been mentioned, including Michael Keane, Ben Gibson, Andrea Conti, and Leonardo Bonucci. However, according to the Daily Express, Conte would also welcome the arrival of one of Spain's emerging talents, 19-year-old Jorge Meré.
Meré, who was developed in Sporting de Gijón's renowned youth academy, made his first-team debut in the 2014-2015 season. It was last season, with Sporting de Gijón in La Liga, that he truly established himself as a starter, accumulating 50 official matches in the top flight.
According to the report, Meré is valued at a staggering £25 million (almost €30 million). This amount seems excessively high considering his limited experience, and it would likely decrease significantly if Sporting de Gijón were to suffer relegation to the Segunda División.
