Bastian Schweinsteiger scores on debut for Chicago Fire in MLS
German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger made his debut in Major League Soccer (MLS) and scored the first goal with his new team, the Chicago Fire, who managed to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw against the Montreal Impact at home.
With just three days of training, the German international started under Serbian coach Veljko Paunovic and immediately showed his class by heading in Chicago's opener in the 17th minute after receiving a cross from David Accam.
Schweinsteiger's debut with the Fire was watched by 15,103 spectators at the Toyota Park stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois, where the match was played. The 31-year-old midfielder, who signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Fire, played the full 90 minutes.
The draw leaves the Fire with five points, seventh in the Eastern Conference standings, while the Impact have three points and are ninth in the same group without a victory so far. Information from EFE.
