In Torreón, the planning for the next season of the Major League Baseball in La Laguna is already underway.

Just concluded the 2016-2017 season of the Major Baseball League of La Laguna, the league is already working towards the next season, which will be full of innovations, including an increase in teams.

The teams of Mineros and Matamoros, due to previous commitments, were unable to attend, but had previously expressed interest in participating.

At the beginning of this week, the first meeting of executives took place for the next season, something historic, as there had never been a meeting so early before.

It was said that they will seek greater growth, consolidation based on quality and detailed planning, where they will seek to restructure the league that is the pride of the people of La Laguna.

Currently, there are 8 teams that formally belong to La Mayor de La Laguna, the champions Orioles de Gómez Palacio, Contadores de Matamoros, Sandilleros de Tlahualilo, Alacranes de Durango and Lerdo, who participated in the recently concluded season.

In addition to them, there are Mineros de la Sección 74, Castores de la FICA UJED, and San Pedro.

Representatives from the Orioles, Lerdo, Tlahualilo, Durango and San Pedro teams attended the meeting, with San Pedro officially returning to the league after two years of absence.

A STEP TOWARDS PROFESSIONALISM

Currently in Mexico, in addition to the two professional leagues, there are other leagues with this label, such as the Veracruz Winter League and Northern Mexico, as well as the Peninsular and Mexican Winter leagues, which work as subsidiaries of the LMB teams.

It is precisely this model that the Laguna league will aim to adopt, for which the general consensus of the different teams is required, who must join the project starting from the next meeting, which will take place on Monday, April 10.

It has been agreed to hold at least 2 monthly meetings from now until June, as from July the meetings would be weekly, and the project for the next season would tentatively be ready to start on September 15.

The professional organizations could join the existing teams and thus form a union that would give the Major League a different face.

Until the previous season, in the Major League of La Laguna, teams had the right to 6 reinforcements between professionals and foreign players, in addition to local players. From the next season, the league could be played with at least 12 reinforcements, without ruling out an open system.

As part of the restructuring, the possible participation of Mexican League organizations would be important. Currently, at least 6 organizations from the summer league have shown great interest in the project, without ruling out the possibility of more teams joining.

If participation is achieved, the professional organizations could join the existing teams and thus form a union that would give the Major League a different face.
