The demolition of La Martinica Stadium was interrupted by authorities

On Wednesday 22, a group of workers intended to start the demolition work of La Martinica Stadium; however, they did not have the necessary permits, as there were closure stamps on the site, so the Municipal Police, with the support of Civil Protection, arrived to prevent the demolition.

According to neighbors, invaluable items that were inside the abandoned stadium were removed from midday, and internal demolition began yesterday at 5 in the afternoon.

Trucks arrived at the site to remove wooden chairs, trophies, other furniture, blackboards, diplomas, typewriters, and refrigerators.

It should be noted that the demolition was carried out in the most discreet way possible to avoid drawing attention; however, the sound of drills, machinery, people entering through a rear gate, and the soil seen coming out above the stadium confirmed the work being done.

The personnel at the site, prior to the arrival of the authorities, tried to prevent MILENIO from taking photographs and videos.

A few months ago, the mayor of León, Héctor López Santillana, announced the demolition of this facility, stating that the owners already had permission for the work. He also mentioned that a housing complex and commercial spaces would be built in its place.

Municipal Statement

Regarding the incident at the sports club offices located in La Martinica Stadium, we share the following information.

1. The apparent eviction of the facilities was not requested or carried out by personnel in charge of this department.

2. With regard to the violation of the seals placed on the club's doors by the Urban Development Department, they have been removed. Therefore, we will file a criminal complaint with the authorities in the coming hours.

3. We also reject that the start of demolition work in said property has been authorized, as the facilities are closed due to the risk they pose. Therefore, we will apply the corresponding sanctions.
