Daniel Galán (Colombia, ATP World Ranking No. 90) suffered a tough defeat in the round of 16 of the Málaga Challenger. The Colombian lost to Spanish player Alejandro Moro Canas (No. 253) with a score of 6-3 and 6-4 and bid farewell to the European event.

The Bucaramanga native won only one match in the tournament which awards 125 points for the champion and €145,000 in prize money. The victory came in the first round against Frenchman Hugo Grenier with a score of 6-3 and 7-5.

Galán has now gone almost three months without winning two consecutive matches in both ATP and Challenger tournaments. The last time was in Kitzbuhel (Austria) when he triumphed against Marco Cecchinato and Daniel Altmaier to reach the quarterfinals, where he would lose to Tomás Etcheverry.

As for the other matches in the Málaga Challenger, Andrea Vavassori (No. 145) defeated Pedro Martínez (No. 116) with a score of 7-6, 6-7, and 6-2. Later, Mattia Bellucci (No. 144) defeated Pablo Carreño Busta (No. 195) with a score of 7-6 and 6-3, and American player Emilio Nava (No. 162) was better than Albert Ramos-Viñolas (No. 93), whom he defeated with a score of 6-3 and 7-6.

Thus, the quarterfinal matches, for a spot in the semifinals, will be: Andrea Vavassori (No. 145) vs. Mattia Bellucci (No. 144); Emilio Nava (No. 162) vs. Alejandro Moro Canas (No. 253); Flavio Cobolli (No. 121) vs. Ugo Blanchet (No. 324); Billy Harris (No. 304) vs. Maxime Janvier (No. 397).
