The South American representatives will make their inaugural appearance in the tournament.

Like other South American representatives present in Madrid, Nadia Podoroska (No. 104 in the WTA rankings) and Camila Osorio (115th) will make their absolute debut in the Spanish tournament. The Argentine will face Laura Siegemund (29th) and the Colombian will face Clara Burel (109th).

The 26-year-old born in Rosario, 36th in the world in 2021 and semifinalist of Roland Garros 2020, arrived in Madrid with a record of 15 wins and 9 losses in the season, with the title at the WTA 125 in Cali and two ITF semifinals as highlights.

Appearing for the first time in one of the most relevant stops on the European clay court tour, she will cross paths with German player Laura Siegemund. The only match they have played so far was in the WTA 1000 in Rome 2021 (2-6, 7-6(3), and 6-1) where Podoroska emerged as the winner. The winner will face Croatian player Petra Martic in the second round. This will be Podoroska's first appearance in a WTA 1000 tournament in one year and eight months (the last time was in Cincinnati 2021).

The match will take place this Wednesday starting at 12:00 PM (Argentina and Chile), 10:00 AM (Colombia and Peru), and 09:00 AM (Mexico).

The native of Cúcuta, 33rd in the world in 2022 and owner of a WTA title in Bogotá 2021, has a record of four wins and four losses in 2023, with the semifinals of the WTA 250 in Lyon being the most outstanding result. Thanks to the invitation granted by the Madrid Open organization, she will start her journey against a familiar opponent: Clara Burel. The head-to-head record is tied at one win each. The first win was for Osorio in Saint-Malo 2020 and the second win, in the final round of the Australian Open 2021 qualifiers, was for the French player.

The match will take place this Wednesday starting at 08:00 AM (Argentina and Chile), 06:00 AM (Colombia and Peru), and 05:00 AM (Mexico). Experience the entire Madrid Masters 1000 on ESPN with STAR+.
