Argentine Open 2022 Women's

Rosario's Nadia Podoroska defeated Mar del Plata's Solana Sierra, in a match between Argentine tennis players, by 6-4 and 6-4, in the initial round of the 2022 Argentine Open, the WTA 125 tournament that takes place at Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club and also featured the victories of her compatriots María Lourdes Carlé and Paula Ormaechea.

Podoroska, born in Rosario and ranked 205th in the WTA world ranking, beat the youthful 18-year-old Marplatense Solana Sierra (463rd), considered the biggest promise of women's tennis in Argentina, after 104 minutes of play. Podoroska will face Montenegrin Danka Kovinic (71st) in the round of 16, who previously defeated Pergamino's Julia Riera (269th) by 6-1, 2-6, and 6-1, after 1 hour and 38 minutes of play.

Meanwhile, María Lourdes Carlé (161st), born in the Buenos Aires city of Daireaux, defeated Korean Su Jeong Jang (118th) by 6-4 and 7-6 (8-6), who entered as a "lucky loser" in place of Egypt's Mayar Sherif (50th), who was the top favorite for the title and withdrew from the tournament, after 2 hours and 37 minutes of match.

Finally, Sunchales' Paula Ormaechea (185th) from Santa Fe defeated Austrian Julia Grabher (84th) in the last match of the day by 6-3 and 6-2, in 1 hour and 25 minutes of competition.

In the next round, the Santa Fe native will face Serbian Natalija Stevanovic (210th), who beat Czech Brenda Fruhvirtova (133rd) in the first round by 7-6 (7-3) and 6-1. The tournament is played on clay and will distribute prizes worth $115,000.

Argentina Open 2022 Men's

The Argentine players Genaro Olivieri, Renzo Olivo, and Juan Pablo Paz were eliminated yesterday from the Sao Leopoldo tennis Challenger in Brazil, losing in the first round to Peruvian Nicolás Álvarez and the Brazilian players Mateus Alves and Joao Lucas Reis Da Silva, respectively.

On the other hand, Renzo Olivo from Rosario (188th) fell to Brazilian Mateus Alves (460th) by 6-4, 4-6, and 6-3, after 2 hours and 11 minutes of match. Meanwhile, Juan Pablo Paz (405th), a player from Berazategui who entered the main draw from the qualifying stage of the tournament, lost to Brazilian Joao Lucas Reis Da Silva (341st) by 6-3 and 6-2, in 76 minutes of play.

Four other Argentine tennis players advanced to the round of 16: Facundo Bagnis, Mariano Navone, Román Burruchaga, and Facundo Díaz Acosta. Bagnis (103rd) defeated local player Pedro Boscardín Dias (345th) by 6-4 and 6-2 and will play his next match against Brazilian Gustavo Heide (406th), who defeated Swedish Leo Borg (520th) by 6-1 and 6-2.

Román Andrés Burruchaga (274th) beat Francisco Comesaña (243rd) by 6-2 and 6-2 in an "Argentina duel" and will play his next match against another national player, Facundo Díaz Acosta (184th), who defeated Gonzalo Villanueva (292nd) by 6-3 and 6-3.

Navone (245th) achieved a good victory in the first round over Portuguese Gastao Elías (210th), and her next opponent will be Brazilian Joao Fonseca (979th), 16 years old, and winner of Thiago Agustín Tirante (231st) from La Plata.
