Gasquet Stuns Wawrinka in Opener
Having entered the tournament ranked 82nd in the world, with three successive losses under his belt and having crashed out of this very tournament in the first round on three previous occasions, the odds were heavily stacked up against Gasquet.
That he managed to overcome Stan Wawrinka after losing the first set bears an ample testimony to his fighting capabilities and never-say-die attitude.
Gasquet was on court for two hours and seven minutes in which he registered a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Wawrinka having needed to get over three match-points before registering the win.
Those came in while Gasquet was serving at 5-6 in the second set but he fought back to win it in a tie-breaker before overcoming a 1-3 deficit in the final set.
He now takes on a player who has never been ranked better than 124th in the world but is coming off an upset victory of his own.

Stricker Sends van de Zandschulp Packing
Needing to qualify for this event by winning a couple of rounds, Stricker then registered one of the biggest wins of his career when he took down Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round.
Having started out at a whopping 5/2 odds to overcome his Dutch opponent, Stricker needed just an hour and 28 minutes to win 6-2, 6-4.
Stricker saved all the four break-points he faced in the encounter while breaking van de Zandschulp on four separate occasions to claim the second round berth. In doing so, this was just the third main draw win of the season for the Swiss qualifier.
He now has a good chance of rare quarterfinal berth given his opponent himself is coming off a tight match and hasn’t quite been in the best of form.
