The Mexican doubles player reached the quarterfinals of the US Open, and for the second time falls just short of improving her result in major tournaments.

Tennis players Giuliana Olmos and Gabriela Dabrowski are eliminated in the quarterfinals

The Mexican tennis player Giuliana Olmos and the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the women's doubles event at the US Open, after losing in three sets against the Czech pair formed by Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova.

After more than two hours of play, Giuliana and Gabriela lost to the European pair with partial scores of 6-3, 5-7, and 6-3. This is Olmos' best result at the US Open as in her three previous participations she did not go beyond the second round.

In the third game of the first set, Olmos and Dabrowski broke their opponents' serve to go up on the scoreboard 2-1, and then they held their own serve for 3-1. However, the Czechs corrected their strategy and won the next five points to take the set.

In the second set, the Czechs did not slow down and started by breaking Olmos and Dabrowski's serve, and then won the following point on their own serve. The score was already 2-0 and the Czech duo won seven points in a row, but Giuliana and Gabriela finally reacted by winning on their serve for 2-1.

In the next two points, both pairs held their serve for 3-2, and in the following one, the Canadian and the Mexican finally broke the Czechs' serve to tie the score at 3-3. However, the Europeans returned the favor to Giuliana and Gabriela to take the lead again on the scoreboard at 4-3.

Olmos and Dabrowski reacted by breaking the Czechs' serve and winning the next point to take the lead at 5-4. The Europeans reacted on their serve and won the point, while Daniela and Giuliana held on for 6-5.

The set had to be decided in the tiebreak as the Czechs won the next point on their serve. In that instance, Olmos and Dabrowski won 7-4 and forced a third set to be played.

In the third set, the Czechs broke the Mexicans' serve in the fourth game for 3-1. In the next one, Gabriela and Giuliana broke the Europeans' serve for 3-2, and it seemed like they could now tie with their own serve, but that was not the case, as Siniakova and Krejcikova stepped up their game and won the next two points against Olmos and Dabrowski, who were already losing their spirits.

The score was 5-2 in favor of the Europeans, and the Mexican and Canadian players won a point on their serve for 5-3, but Siniakova and Krejcikova finished the match in the next point.

Thus, Olmos cannot reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam, having missed the opportunity twice before. The first time was at the Australian Open in 2021, and the second time was at this US Open 2022.
