Nicolás Massú, Chile's captain, called up five tennis players to face Peru this month in the Davis Cup. Cristian Garin is the main face of the southern team.

Peru and Chile will face each other in the framework of the World Group I of the Davis Cup. So, the southern team presented on Tuesday the list of summoned players to face the national squad. Thus, captain Nicolás Massú considered Cristian Garin, Alejandro Tabilo, Gonzalo Lama, Nicolás Jarry, and Matías Soto.

Of the players nominated by Massú, Tabilo is the highest ranked in the ATP rankings at 71 and Garin follows him in 82nd place. Both, who were in the main draw of the US Open, are the only ones in the top 100. The closest is Jarry, in 123rd place, who stayed in the qualifying rounds of the fourth Grand Slam of the season.

Meanwhile, Lama is ranked 236th and marks an important fact: he returns to represent Chile for the first time since 2018. Finally, Soto is number 528 on the professional circuit and, in his case, has already been in the previous matches against Sweden and Slovakia.

Tomás Barrios has not been considered by Massú due to a health issue. The world number 160 underwent knee surgery in August and will be out of action for an extended period of time.

What would be Peru's team?

Everything indicates that captain Américo 'Tupi' Venero will rely on Juan Pablo Varillas, Nicolás Álvarez, the Huertas del Pino brothers, Sergio Galdós, and Gonzalo Bueno as the representatives of the Peruvian team in the duel that offers a spot to play the qualifiers in February 2023.

When will Peru and Chile play for the Davis Cup?

The 'Clásico del Pacífico' will take place on Saturday, September 17, and Sunday, September 18, as announced by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Peruvian Sports Federation of Tennis (FDPT). The clash between Peru and Chile will take place at the Club Lawn Tennis in the Exposición district of Jesús María in Lima.
