Australian controversial tennis player Nick Kyrgios offered his best version this Sunday and eliminated Russian Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16 of the US Open. Kyrgios won 7-6(11), 3-6, 6-3, and 6-2 in two hours and 53 minutes. In the quarterfinals, he will face another Russian, Karen Khachanov, who defeated Spanish player Pablo Carreño 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, and 6-3 in three hours and 21 minutes. Often making headlines more for his extravagances and questionable gestures on the court than for his formidable tennis talent, Kyrgios gave a true performance against Medvedev in the most prominent match on Sunday in Arthur Ashe Stadium, the main court of the US Open. But aside from his spectacular shots, the match had it all. Kyrgios, the finalist in the last edition of Wimbledon, threw his racket to the ground and received a warning for shouting an obscenity.

Kyrgios and his antics

Nevertheless, the most unusual moment of the controversial tennis player was when he crossed the net next to his opponent and hit the ball when he had already won the point but the ball had not yet bounced on the ground, so he lost that point. "This is going to be all over the place, and I'm going to look like an idiot," Kyrgios joked in the post-match interview on the court. Medvedev also had his share of protagonism in this heated match: he complained about what Kyrgios' team was saying from the stands and also criticized that the Australian did not receive a warning after throwing a ball into the crowd. In any case, the atmosphere between them also had moments of friendly sportsmanship, such as when the Russian approached Kyrgios' side to inquire about him after he suffered a spectacular fall.
