Belinda Bencic v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head

Bencic leads 2-1 head to head. She won both the matches in 2016, while Petkovic won the most recent matchup in Washington in 2018.

Bencic Consistent Through the Year

It’s been another solid season for Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Belinda Bencic, who heads to the U.S. Open with a 31-15 season record behind her.

The World no. 13 won her sixth career title in Charleston this year and then reached a 15th final, in Berlin, but couldn’t add to the list of trophies after she was forced to retire from the final.

Among the majors, the Swiss has delivered her best results at the U.S. Open. While she has never reached a quarterfinal of the first three majors, she was a semifinalist at the U.S. Open in 2019 and made it to the quarterfinals in 2014 and 2021.

As far as her current form is concerned, the 25-year-old is 3-2 during the North American swing. She lost in the quarterfinals in Toronto and was beaten in the first round of the Cincinnati Open by Sorana Cirstea.

Bencic could once again face the Romanian if they both win their first round matches. While Bencic takes on Petkovic, Cirstea also opens her campaign against a German, Laura Siegemund. If the 13th seed Bencic is able to pass the first two tests, things only get tougher for her as she could face a potential third round against Karolina Pliskova.

Petkovic Quitting the Sport

Andrea Petkovic has announced that she will soon be bringing curtains to her 16-year career on the tour. While the German is still unsure if the U.S. Open will be her last tournament or she may add a tournament in Europe later this year, she has certainly made her mind to quit.

A former World No. 9, Petkovic has been injury-prone in recent times and that could be one of the reasons that has forced the 34-year-old to make the decision.

A seven-time champion on the tour, Petkovic was a quarterfinalist at the U.S. Open in 2011. This will be her 14th appearance in the tournament.

Currently ranked No. 104 she is 15-14 from all tournaments this year and has featured in two quarterfinals in Melbourne and Hamburg. It was a painful exit for her from Hamburg as she suffered an adductor injury during the match, leaving the court on tears.

Petkovic has found the going tough in the other tournaments either falling in the qualifiers or making early exits.

Can she pack a punch in what will be her final major?

Bencic v Petkovic Prediction and Tip

Petkovic hasn’t been in best of form, while Bencic has been a consistent performer throughout the season. Expected the Swiss to ease into the next round with a straight sets win.

Tip: Bencic to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
