Orlando City defeats New York RB and advances to the final of the US Open Cup 2022
With four goals from Uruguayan footballers, Orlando City defeated New York RB 5-1 in the semifinals of the US Open Cup 2022 and will play the final on September 7th against Sacramento.
The goals were scored by César Araujo in the 49th and 62nd minutes, Mauricio Pereyra in the 47th minute, Facundo Torres in the 75th minute, and Benji Michel in the 83rd minute.
In the other semifinal, Sacramento defeated Sporting Kansas City in a penalty shootout.
The tournament is organized by the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer) and includes all affiliated clubs, both professional and amateur, including the Major League Soccer (MLS) teams.
This is the oldest football competition in the country, being played since 1914, and since 2008, the champion directly qualifies for the Concacaf Champions League.
The 2019 and 2020 editions were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
