The Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas advanced to the main draw of the ATP 250 Gstaad, in Switzerland, after defeating Russian Pavel Kotov 2-0 in the final qualifying round.

Juan Pablo Varillas' (ATP: 115) activity doesn't stop, and this Monday he secured his spot in the main draw of the ATP 250 Gstaad in Switzerland, after succeeding in the final qualifying round. The national tennis player defeated the Russian Pavel Kotov (ATP: 117) by 2-0, with scores of 6-4 and 6-1, in approximately one hour and 40 minutes.

In the first qualifying round of the tournament, the Peruvian had eliminated the Italian Andrea Vavassori, also by 2-0. The motivation of our top player was at its highest and he demonstrated his talent on the court once again, in a first set without errors.

Pavel Kotov started the match with the serve, but couldn't take advantage of that instance and ended up 1-0 down on the scoreboard. Varillas, after breaking the service, was very solid and managed to maintain his advantage in the series little by little, until he secured a 6-4 in favor in the first set.

In the second set, once again Juan Pablo started winning, despite his opponent having served first. During the game, the tennis player representing Peru was more assertive, didn't let the opponent react, and achieved a 6-1, securing victory in the tie.

This way, Varillas enters the main draw of the ATP 250 Gstaad and will start the competition from the round of 16. Juanpi's new match won't be easy, as he will have to face the Italian Lorenzo Sonego (ATP: 60), who was directly classified. According to the schedule, the match will be on Tuesday, July 19, at approximately 4:30 a.m. (Peruvian time).
