Roland Garros will be his last tournament, a competition in which he holds some of his best memories as a professional tennis player, as he reached the semifinals on two occasions (2013 and 2015) in front of his own people.
In addition, the 37-year-old player was a finalist in the Australian Open in 2008, also reached the semifinals at Wimbledon (2011 and 2012), and made it to the quarterfinals at the US Open (2011 and 2015).
He made his debut in 2004 and established himself as one of the main faces on the circuit in an era dominated by the best tennis players in history. In fact, he achieved great victories against the so-called Big 4: six times against Swiss Roger Federer and six against Serbian Novak Djokovic, four against Spanish Rafael Nadal, and two against Scottish Andy Murray.
Among his most notable achievements, he won 18 ATP titles (the most important ones were the Paris and Toronto Masters 1000), reached 5th in the world, won the silver medal in men's doubles at the 2012 London Olympics with Michael Llodra, and won the Davis Cup with France in 2017.
Tsonga will leave tennis as one of the most beloved players of his time, with enormous talent on the court and unparalleled charisma outside of it. The local audience will bid him farewell as he deserves: with a standing ovation.
