Medvedev's Wimbledon in jeopardy: The United Kingdom insists on excluding Russians who do not directly reject Putin.

The British government has insisted on its intention for Russian and Belarusian athletes who come to compete in the United Kingdom to declare their neutrality.

The British government has insisted on its intention for Russian and Belarusian athletes who come to compete in the United Kingdom to declare their neutrality.

Medvedev is not the only Russian affected by these measures, since Andrey Rublev (7), Karen Khachanov (25), and Aslan Karatsev (32) are within the top 100 and, under normal conditions, would participate in the third Grand Slam of the season. As for the women, the most striking case is that of Aryna Sabalenka, the world number five, as well as the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (14) and the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (16).

The ATP and the WTA have not suspended players from these countries and only require them to play with a neutral flag and without symbols of their country. However, the British government wants to go a step further.

"I have had several meetings with various sports organizations to discuss possible sanctions and bans on individual athletes", said Nigel Huddleston, British Sports Minister.

"We have asked these entities that if Russian and Belarusian athletes want to participate in competitions in the United Kingdom, they must be independent and neutral. Really. We want it to be done in a written statement, that they do not receive money from President Putin, Russia, or Belarus. That they will also not make any supportive comments about Putin, Russia, or Belarus", added Huddleston.

Huddleston himself already commented on this possibility in mid-March. Medvedev also doesn't know what will happen and responded to it a few days ago: "I don't know what will happen with Wimbledon. Everyone knows what's going on and, of course, it's impossible to ignore it. I have always said that everyone has different opinions about what is happening in the world. And I have always said that I am in favor of peace".
