The Peruvian national team did not have a good start in the knock-out round of the Davis Cup 2021 by losing the first two matches against Romania in the BT Arena in Cluj Napoca. The compatriots Nicolás Álvarez and Conner Huertas del Pino lost to the local tennis players and could not score points for Peru.
‘Nico’ (392 ATP) was responsible for opening the series, but the result did not go his way. The national racket lost 2-0 with scores of 6-4 and 6-2 against Nicolae Frunza (692 ATP), who, despite not having a better ranking, was able to overcome the Peruvian.
On the other hand, Conner (399 ATP) was defeated by the Romanian Marius Copil (274 ATP), who won the match 2-0 with scores of 7-5 and 6-2. Although the first set was a close match, the superiority of the local player showed in the second set.
