Triumphs continue for the Mexican Paralympic delegation at the Rio 2016 Games
Triumphs continue for the Mexican Paralympic delegation at the Rio 2016 Games. The glory this time went to Mexican judoka Eduardo Ávila who obtained gold in the 81 kilogram category.
Ávila's sporting baggage in judo gave him the support to finish another Paralympic cycle with a new medal, in these his third Games. Ávila boasts a gold medal in Beijing 2008 and in London 2012 he added a bronze to his record.
At the continental level, Eduardo is a three-time Parapan American champion, winning gold in Rio 2007, Guadalajara 2011, and Toronto 2015.
At an early age, Eduardo dedicated himself full-time to sports, trying his luck in different disciplines, but largely thanks to his father, he focused mainly on judo, a discipline that helped him overcome his condition.
Eduardo Ávila has suffered from retinitis since an early stage, an ocular disease that limits his vision, but thanks to this and the influence of his family, the judoka has achieved great accomplishments throughout his sports career.
At 30 years old, the new Paralympic champion added the third medal for Mexico on the second day of competition in Rio de Janeiro.
