Aída Román expresses regret for her performance at the Rio 2016 Olympics
Aída Román, the Mexican archer who was eliminated in the early rounds in both team and individual events, expressed regret for her performance at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Her words went viral and generated criticism about her commitment and performance.
"I don't know (how to feel pressured). I am Aída Román, I don't owe anything to anyone," she said to the ESPN reporter a few days ago. She then sent a message to her followers and detractors through her Twitter account (@cuerdarosa):
HERE IS HER FULL MESSAGE
Hello everyone!
I am writing to thank you for your words of encouragement, virtual hugs, and much love. I know there are also some complaints. I understand your point of view since each and every one of us has the right to freedom of expression.
Currently, I am not living my best moment in my sports career, but I assure you that I did the most I could in that great event. I know Mexico deserves more. And I deeply regret not giving you more joy, like the one we experienced in London when we won the first Olympic medals for Mexico in archery, or in the indoor championship where we became world champions, or the World Cup Final we won in Laussane. And many other great results we have experienced. Not just with me shooting, but with other great Mexican archers and athletes dedicating their victories.
This is just a bump in the road, now it's time to clean up the scratches and look ahead. I will continue to do my best, and in the future, I will dedicate more achievements to you.
Once again, thank you for your support!
