President Donald Trump's decisions have generated divided opinions on social media, such as a hypothetical boycott of brands originating from the United States, which, if it were to become a reality, would directly affect sports in Mexico.
What would happen to major international events like the NFL, NBA, or Major League Baseball if the famous #AdiosStarbucks, among other campaigns to stop consuming American brands, became a reality?
Companies like WWE, UFC, and even Formula One would not have a place in our country, not without their main sponsors being 'blocked' by Mexican consumers. This would also reflect a blow to the national economy due to the significant economic impact that these events generated last year with their presence in the capital and other cities such as Guadalajara and Monterrey.
Several Mexican soccer clubs would stop using brands that manufacture their uniforms like Nike and Under Armour. America, Pumas, and Cruz Azul, three of the four major clubs, would have to look for Mexican or other non-American companies.
It doesn't sound bad for Mexican hands to be the ones designing the majority of the uniforms in national soccer, although several quality items like cleats would also be erased from stores.
Another point to consider is that the teams' jerseys would no longer display American sponsors and instead promote patches from other types of companies.
