Bryson DeChambeau will team up with Donald Trump for a round of golf after inviting the former US President onto his YouTube channel.

The American, who won his second US Open at Pinehurst last month, teased a video of himself on social media with Trump on a golf course explaining that it was “time” for the 45th President of the United States to “show what he has got”. The video is scheduled to be released on Tuesday.

Trump will feature in DeChambeau’s Break 50 YouTube series which sees him team up with various celebrities and golf influencers in an attempt to play 18 holes in less than 50 strokes from the most forward tees on the golf course. In this special edition with Trump, DeChambeau played down speculation that this was a political stunt to aid Trump’s presidential campaign and announced $10,000 will be donated to charity for every stroke under par the pair make.

Break 50 with Donald Trump dropping tomorrow on my YouTube channel! On this special episode, we will be donating $10,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project for every stroke we score under par. Stay tuned,” DeChambeau wrote in a statement followed by the eyes emoji.

“To be clear, this is about golf and giving back to our nation’s veterans, not politics. A few weeks ago I reached out to both parties’ presidential campaigns and Donald Trump was down for the challenge. It is an incredible honor to be able to enjoy a round of golf with any sitting or former president, and all have an open invitation to join me for a round of Break 50 anytime.”

Trump has been closely associated with golf since he began buying and building courses in 1999. He owns 17 around the world, including Turnberry and Trump National in Scotland, and claims to play off a handicap as low as two.

Golf became a discussion point during the election campaign when Trump teased President Joe Biden about his swing in a televised debate before challenging the Democrat to a golf match. Trump is bidding to become president for a second time after Biden, 81, pulled out of the election race last weekend.

“I’m also officially challenging crooked Joe to an 18-hole golf match right here on Doral’s Blue Monster, considered one of the greatest tournament golf courses anywhere in the world, one of the great courses of the world,” Trump said at an rally at his Doral course in Florida. “It will be among the most-watched sporting events in history. Maybe bigger than the Ryder Cup or even the Masters.

“And I will even give Joe Biden 10 strokes a side. Ten strokes, that’s a lot. That means 20 strokes, in case you don’t play golf. And if he wins, I will give the charity of his choice, any charity of his choice, $1 million. And I’ll bet you he doesn’t take the offer.”

It is unclear whether Trump filmed the video with DeChambeau prior to the assassination attempt on his life earlier this month, which saw the 78-year-old wounded by a gunman who grazed his ear with a bullet.

DeChambeau won his second major at Pinehurst in June but missed the cut at the Open at Royal Troon. He is scheduled to play in the UK this weekend at JCB Golf & Country Club alongside other stars of the LIV Golf tour.
