The Peruvian surfer Lucca Mesinas returned to Lima this Tuesday after being crowned as Pan American champion in shortboard at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 .

The athlete was warmly received at Lima's Jorge Chávez airport by representatives of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) and fans who didn't stop congratulating him.

In addition to winning the bicampeonato in Santiago 2023, Mesinas secured a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

"I saw that Christian Pacheco was one of the first to win a gold medal, was a bicampeón, I visualized myself and said 'I also want to be a bicampeón in these Pan American Games'. Every day I visualized it, I wanted to win another gold medal and qualify for the Olympic Games," said Mesinas to Canal N.

"We're lucky that surfing is now in the Pan American Games and Olympic Games, so that's reflected in the medals we bring," Mesinas added, who was also happy for the achievements of his teammates María Fernanda Reyes and Benoit Clemente, Pan American gold medalists in longboard.
