Tiger Woods completed one of sport's greatest comebacks in 2019 when he won the Maters - 11 years after his previous major success.

When Tiger had back surgery for the third time in 2015, many feared the golfing great would not return to his previous stardom as he started a long road to recovery. However, 11 years after winning his 14th major title the golfing great won his 15th and fifth Green Jacket.

However, the outcome could perhaps have been very different as Woods was wiped out by a security guard in a freak moment which almost caused him serious injury. After hitting a wayward drive on the 14th hole during his second round, Woods' ball was laying in the rough.

Tiger recovered the situation with an excellent approach shot, but as the golf star watched his impressive effort, he was almost taken out. As fans rushed to follow Tiger out of the rough, the security guards tried to keep a ring around the star.

However, one security guard slipped on the grass and then almost slid into Tiger with both feet off the ground. The security guard clipped the back of Woods' heel and despite the star initially looking hurt he carried on to play the 30-foot putt.

Fortunately unharmed in the incident, Woods remained in contention after the second round and looked back calmly on the freak incident.

“Accidents happen,” Woods said after finishing his round. “We move on. I’m good. Apart from having four knee surgeries and three back surgeries, I’m great.”

The most relieved man at Augusta International that day was the security guard who almost ended Woods' historic comeback.

“Well, he made birdie, so I guess it all worked out," the security guard said. "Man, I am really glad he made birdie. Now I'm all over the internet. My boss told me - I don't have my phone but he does."

Woods is making his 25th appearance at Augusta this weekend, but injury problems continue to hamper the golf star following his horrific car crash in 2021. Tiger shot a two-over par 74 in an opening round which included five bogeys and three birdies.

The golf star said he had 'constant' pain in his right leg which he admitted was 'sore' after his Augusta appearance. Woods faces missing the Masters cut for the first time in his professional career.
