Peruvians in Paris 2024
Peruvian long-distance runner Christian Pacheco, 29, secured his spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics after breaking his own record in the Seville Marathon, Spain. This time, he achieved a time of 2h 7m 38s, surpassing the required 02:11.30 and finishing 11th in the race.
"My goal for this race was to break the national record once again and qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. I am happy to have achieved it and see the results of so much effort," said the athlete after learning his record time.
The athlete from Huancayo will compete for the third time in the Olympic marathon, after running in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. In addition, Pacheco has also secured his presence in Santiago 2023 and the Budapest Athletics World Championships, which will be held in August of this year.
It is worth mentioning that Christian won the gold medal in the 2019 Lima Pan American Games and is currently among the top 10 athletes in the Pan American ranking.
Pacheco becomes the second Peruvian athlete to qualify for Paris 2024, following Gladys Tejeda, who achieved it on December 4th of last year at the Valencia Marathon.
