The IPL 2023 mini-auction is just over a month away, and excitement is building. Franchises have started finalizing their strategies for the highly anticipated event, with some even trading previous bets. Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia is hopeful that their long wait for an IPL trophy will end.
Since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008, the Punjab Kings have reached the finals in 2014 but failed to make the playoffs in the last four seasons. They have made a few changes to their squad and coaching staff following poor performances. While Shikhar Dhawan replaced Mayank Agarwal as the skipper, Australian cricketer Trevor Bayliss will be the head coach for the upcoming season.
It Is A Good Combination – Ness Wadia
Ness Wadia has shown confidence in new appointees and recently stated that he expects significant results from the new changes at the helm of affairs in the upcoming season.
“The expectation from them is to take us to top four and then hopefully win the Cup. Dhawan and Trevor’s rich experience and knowledge should help us,” Wadia was quoted as saying by PTI.
“It is a good combination. Trevor comes with a good track record with England and in the IPL. With all their experience combined, we are hoping it will culminate into results that Punjab need and deserve,” said Wadia.
We Surely Need To Be More Consistent – Ness Wadia
Ahead of the player retention deadline of November 15, Wadia stated that they would try to retain the core group. The co-owner stated that the team needs to become more consistent.
“It is not frustrating (the team’s below par performances). It is a lot of learning. We have been millimetres away in the past and it involves little bit of luck as well and that has not gone our way in recent times. Consistency plays a big role. We surely need to be more consistent.”
“We will try and keep the core group same as much as possible. We have to make sure we do correct analysis of what is required to take the team forward. It is a work in progress.”
