Tremendous scare on the fifth day of competition at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest

Anita Álvarez left the attendees concerned after fainting in the water after completing her exercise in the individual free artistic swimming final.

Fortunately, her coach, Spanish Andrea Fuentes, quickly intervened and jumped into the pool to rescue her.

After being taken out of the pool on a stretcher, the swimmer recovered and is out of danger. However, as reported by the US team, she will undergo various tests in the coming days to determine the cause of the fainting.

"It was apocalyptic, Anita wasn't breathing. She spent two minutes without breathing. I tried to wake her up by slapping her and opening her jaw. When a swimmer finishes, the first thing they do is breathe, she was sinking and no one reacted, so I jumped in", said Fuentes, in El Partidazo de COPE.

Álvarez has fainted before. In a pairs event, she went through something similar at the Tokyo2020 pre-Olympics. Fortunately, it was all just a scare.

"On another occasion, I also had to help her, but it wasn't as serious. Athletes push their bodies to the limit, and today she discovered where hers is", said Fuentes, who has won four Olympic medals with Spain.
